How can a player pick up a ban?

A Premier League player can be banned from playing in a game/games for a few different reasons. Here’s a look at all of them:

Accumulating 5 Yellows – This most common way for a player to get a one-match ban is by picking up too many yellow cards during games. In the Premier League, once a player gets 5 yellow cards over any amount of games, they will receive a ban for one league game. This means that they WILL be eligible for cup competition or in-between their ban however they must miss the next Premier League match.

Getting Red Carded – On the occasion that a football player gets two yellow cards in one game or one red card they will not only be sent off the pitch but also have to miss the next league game.

Disorderly Conduct – A player can also receive a ban for actions that are deemed disorderly on and off the pitch. This includes assaulting fans, disrespectful celebrations and other derogatory behaviours. The FA will review the case and decide if and how long a ban should be served for on the occasion that this occurs.
